If you want to lose weight and have a healthy life, you must eliminate certain foods that, while good in taste, are low in nutrition and high in calories which, in excess, could harm your body. Most of these meals do not provide the essential nutrients that the body needs, lacking fiber, healthy fat, and protein.
To lose weight, it is not enough to just exercise, but to complement it with a good diet. "It is true, the human body functions based on nutrients. For example, in order for us to get out of bed, we need energy obtained from carbohydrates and fats. They are also needed to perform work functions. Definitely, depending on the intake I have, the more nutritious it is, the better the body will function," said Patricia Chávez Agurto, director of the Nutrition and Dietetics program at the Private University of the North.
What foods to eliminate if you want to lose weight?
We share with you some foods and beverages that contain a large amount of fat and sugar, which are harmful to your health, because they provide almost no nutrients and have a high calorie content.
- Baked goods: Baked desserts contain a lot of fats, sugars, and refined grains that are bad for diets at all levels. Restrict these foods to an occasional craving and in small or moderate portions. These foods include: cakes, sweet or savory cookies, breads, muffins, donuts, pastries, brownies, etc.
- Fruit juices: Fruits are good because they contain many nutrients good for your body, but when consumed in juice form, the fiber is lost and you end up consuming fructose, also known as sugar. In other words, you would be consuming a sugary drink and there are some that are full of flavorings, preservatives, and syrups that make them less sweet.
- Margarines or butter substitutes: If your purpose is to lose weight, stay away from these products that due to their high content of hydrogenated fats increase cholesterol production. You can use clarified butter which is rich in fat-soluble vitamins, avocado or coconut oil, and for dressing your salads you can use olive oil.
- Alcoholic beverages: Alcohol intake should not be recommended as a regular thing. Numerous scientific studies indicate that alcohol affects body weight in 4 different ways: it hinders fat burning, has a high caloric content (with no nutrients), stimulates the intake of other foods, and can lead to poor food choices.
- Sweet carbonated drinks: This type of drink has a negative impact, not only on body weight but also on overall health. There is scientific evidence that reveals that the consumption of these drinks promotes weight gain, both in children and adults. This group includes sodas, but also other types such as iced teas, electrolyte replacement drinks, and energy drinks.
