After facing the qualifying rounds for Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018 with Umbro, and the preparation for Qatar 2022 with Marathon, the new supplier for the national team will be Adidas. Although the announcement was made last year, the presentation took place on Tuesday, January 17.
It was a launch that sparked different emotions among Peruvian fans. While some highlighted that there were no major alterations, others consider it to be a very simple design, considering the power and recognition of the prestigious international brand.
Simple coincidence?
Among the harshest criticisms are those from fans who believe that it is a 'copy' of one of River Plate's previous jerseys. This Argentine club, like the 'Blanquirroja', also features a red stripe across the chest and is sponsored by Adidas.
A store in the commercial galleries of Gamarra did not hesitate to put Adidas Peru jerseys up for sale even when the official design was still unknown. Perhaps 'inspired' by this same old model from the 'Millonario' team, they began to offer it.
A tweet from August 2022 is witness to this fact, in which a user shared photos of the design that was being sold in Gamarra at that time, and today it is trending due to its great resemblance to the final model presented by Adidas. Although the sleeves are not the same, the rest is almost identical. Coincidence?
