Paolo Guerrero was not satisfied with the decision of the FIFA Appeals Committee, which reduced the suspension of the captain of the Peruvian national team to six months, allowing him to play in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Flamengo striker gave his first interview after the reduction of his punishment and expressed his annoyance. Paolo Guerrero spoke with the "Reuters" agency.
"For me, it is important to continue proving my innocence. I also feel a little indignant because I should not be going through this. There is a bit of injustice. It's really hard. I'm not at ease now that the punishment has been reduced. I will continue fighting and proving my innocence. Now I have to sit down with my lawyers to decide what step we are going to take," said Guerrero.
He added: "This period has been tough and difficult, especially for my parents, who are very worried. Not being able to play is very complicated. Now I have to find the strength to fight and be playing football again. That's my goal and what I deserve, because I am innocent."
When asked about what happened in the test that was carried out after the draw against Argentina, which showed an adverse analytical result with the presence of benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite of cocaine, Paolo Guerrero confessed that he still doesn't understand how it happened.
"We don't know what happened. What we know is that there was contamination. That's clear to me, to the doctors, and I believe to FIFA as well. It's clear, given the very low amount that came out in the doping test. Now I have to continue the fight with my lawyers, because I should not be going through this punishment. I should be enjoying my vacation and focusing on my professional goals in 2018," concluded the captain of the Peruvian national team.
