In the co-main event of NXT TakeOver: War Games, Mexican wrestler Andrade "Cien" Almas defeated Drew McIntyre to become the NXT Champion for the first time. He also became the first Latin American to achieve this honor, and this is the first title he has won since signing with WWE.
The match began with all the rage that the Scottish wrestler had built up throughout the rivalry. He managed to land several blows on his opponent, who gradually relied on his cunning (developed together with his accomplice, Zelina Vega) to corner the reigning champion of the yellow brand.
Although McIntyre had the chance to finish off Almas, the Mexican prevailed in the match, and thus, he was also able to execute his lethal move, only to achieve the same result as his rival.
However, the decisive moment came when the Scottish wrestler was preparing to jump from the ropes and attack Almas, but Vega interfered again, causing the Mexican to execute his finisher with a variation, securing the victory and becoming the new NXT Champion.
