The Liga 1 2023 transfer market
The Liga 1 2023 transfer market ends on March 8th and different names are being mentioned as possible reinforcements for the clubs in the local championship. However, a well-known football player is absent, despite being a key player for the Peruvian National Team and a standout player abroad.
Alberto Rodríguez
We are referring to Alberto Rodríguez, an experienced national defender who is now 38 years old. 'El Mudo' as he was known, has been without a team since the end of the 2021 season, in which he played for Alianza Atlético de Sullana.
Rodríguez's performance has declined significantly in recent years, as he has been hindered by challenging injuries that prevented him from performing at his best both with Alianza Lima in 2020 and Alianza Atlético in 2021. In fact, in his last season, he only played 8 matches.
However, during the peak of his career back in 2011 when he played for teams like SC Braga and Sporting Lisbon, both in Portugal, his transfer value reached around 5.80 million euros in the international market, which was the highest figure of his career.
Between SC Braga, Sporting Lisbon, and Rio Ave, 'El Mudo' played 8 consecutive seasons as a starting player in Portuguese football, before returning to Sporting Cristal in 2015.
Has Alberto Rodríguez retired from football?
Despite this being his second year of inactivity, there has been no official statement from 'El Mudo' Rodríguez regarding his retirement. So we will remain expectant of a possible return of the memorable Peruvian defender from Russia 2018 to the football fields.
