Peru's national team practically plays for qualification to the Qatar World Cup against Colombia and Ecuador in January 2022. Now, Ricardo Gareca and his entire technical staff are seeking to play two friendlies as preparation, preferably against teams from Central America and Europe.
The suspension of some leagues like the MLS and the local tournament being in the midst of preseason will force the Peruvian Federation to obtain special permits for some players since it is not a FIFA date to at least play one friendly match.
Ricardo Gareca's intention is to play against two CONCACAF teams or a European team where tournaments are suspended and they can accept the invitation to come to South America. The main objective is to play in Lima to avoid a trip that could tire the team out.
"Yes, the opponents for the January friendlies will be from CONCACAF or a European team where tournaments are suspended and they are considering the option of coming to play in South America. But basically, they would be from CONCACAF and the friendlies will be in Lima," said Juan Carlos Oblitas to 'El Comercio'.
Remember that the national team closed in fifth place, with 17 points. If the Qualifiers ended today, we would play in the playoffs.
Which countries would Peru play against?
Everything indicates that the Peruvian national team will face Iceland and Panama, according to what was revealed on the ESPN television network. The tentative dates would be January 9th and 12th, 2022.
