With over four months of reign, Bayley has faced a wide range of challengers who have tried to take away her NXT Women's Championship, from her great rival Sasha Banks to the powerful Nia Jax, however, she will now have a different challenge when she clashes with her best friend, Carmella.
At today's NXT main event, on January 13th, Carmella achieved the most important victory of her career when she was the last woman standing in a battle royal where most of the women's roster of the developmental system participated, including rookies Liv Morgan and Aliyah. On the other hand, the absences of Nia Jax and Dana Brooke were notorious, as they did not have medical clearance to participate.
During the match, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay gave a great performance as a team before being eliminated by Asuka, apparently the last woman standing. However, the Japanese wrestler was eliminated by Eva Marie, who had come out from under the ropes at the beginning. Finally, Carmella, who had also fallen out of the ring without being eliminated, used the same move on Eva and took the victory.
Bayley, the champion, came to the ring to congratulate her new rival, who is also her best friend backstage, as seen in Breaking Ground.
This result was far from being a surprise, as the match between Bayley and Carmella had already been officially announced on social media for the recordings of January 22nd.
