The entire event will be hosted by the Azuay Government, with its main representative Xavier Enderica, the Ministry of Sports and the FDA.

Only gold medal

Ecuadorian Sports Day is celebrated precisely in homage to the country's first and only Olympic gold medal, achieved by former athlete Jefferson Pérez, in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.

After the marcher's milestone, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, with Agreement Nº 3401, on July 24, 1997, declared July 26th as Ecuadorian Sports Day.

The agreement stated that the Atlanta achievement was not isolated, as Jefferson was able to place Ecuador on the world sports map, not only for his gold medal in Atlanta 96 and silver in Beijing 2008, but also for his gold medals in the World Championships of Paris 2003, Helsinki 2005 and Osaka 2007; as well as being a winner of Pan-American and South American Games, among other events.

In Guayaquil, a program will be held in Samanes Park with the participation of Fedeguayas and delegations from provincial federations; while in Esmeraldas there will be an event at the Children's Park; and the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) did not announce any activity. (D)
