At Parque Chankanaab, Lezama cheered on the athletes who are part of this great sports event in which nearly 3,000 men and women of all ages participate, covering 1.9 km in water, 90.1 km of cycling, and 21.1 km of running to be among the first 30 people to reach the final, which will be held in Taupo, New Zealand, on December 14 and 15.

Winners of Ironman 70.3

Mexican athlete Tomás Rodríguez was crowned the overall winner of the 12th edition of Ironman 70.3 in Cozumel, with a time of 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 24 seconds.

The second place went to the Argentinean Luciano Taccone, who completed the race in a time of 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 24 seconds, closely followed by the US athlete Justin Riele, with a time of 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 19 seconds.

In the women's elite category, Australian athlete Hannah Berry climbed the podium with a time of 4 hours, 8 minutes, and 4 seconds, followed by her compatriot Sara Crowley with a time of 4 hours, 10 minutes, and 44 seconds. The third place was taken by Spanish athlete Gurutze Frades, who completed the race in 4 hours, 21 minutes, and 52 seconds.

Mauricio Zavala, director of Ironman, reported that 35 percent of the registered athletes were women. It was also announced that the majority of participants are from Mexico, followed by athletes from the United States and Canada.

Tourism authorities anticipate a hotel occupancy rate of over 70% and an estimated economic impact of over 120 million pesos for Cozumel and the Riviera Maya as a result of this internationally renowned sports event.
