Victoria Azarenka (19th in the WTA) could not participate in the second round match of the WTA 1000 in Montreal against Sloane Stephens (38th) due to injury.
"I regret to inform you that during the warm-up for tonight's match, I once again aggravated an injury that I thought was already resolved. For this reason, I need to withdraw from the match. I wish the event success and good luck to Sloane for the rest of the tournament. I love Montreal and I hope to come back," expressed the Belarusian through social media.

Vika had a successful debut in the tournament after defeating Magda Linette (25th) by 6-3 and 6-0. Stephens, on the other hand, did the same against Anhelina Kalinina (28th) by 6-4 and 7-6 (2).
For now, the American in the third round of Montreal awaits the winner of the match between her compatriot Jennifer Brady and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina.
