The Australian continues to progress steadily in the Citi Open and advanced to the second round by defeating Marcos Giron, thanks to the help of a fan.

The first round of the Citi Open, the Washington Tournament of the US Open Series, was played normally and one of the big protagonists was Nick Kyrgios (ATP: 63). The outstanding Australian tennis player defeated American Marcos Giron (ATP: 53) with a solid 2-0 and drew attention for his actions on match point: he asked for help from a fan at the William Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

The level shown by the 'Bad boy' had been impressive, as he comfortably won 6-3 in the first set, in just 28 minutes of play; and jumped into the second set determined to secure the victory: he broke his opponent's serve on two occasions and had the serve to seal the qualification (40:0 in the 5-2 partial).

Kyrgios, known for his powerful serve, this time decided to receive help and approached a fan who was in the sports facility. Nick briefly conversed with the fan, amidst the excitement of the audience, and returned to the court, ready to put the new tactic into practice.

At first, the Australian failed and looked at the stands, disapproving the advice of his unexpected collaborator. However, the Wimbledon runner-up repeated the formula and this time succeeded, achieving the decisive 6-2 and advancing to the second round of the Citi Open. The attendees celebrated the scene with cheers and applause.

So far, Kyrgios shows a sustained level and seeks to continue steadily until the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam of the season. It is worth noting that recently, Nick and his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis were champions in doubles at the Atlanta Open and they also focus on going far in that category (they won the title at the Australian Open earlier this year).

When will Nick Kyrgios play again?

The next presentation will be in the round of 16 of the Citi Open, when he faces American Tommy Paul (ATP: 34) on Wednesday, August 3 (7:30 p.m.). Remember that the Australian is preparing with a view to the US Open, which will start on Monday, August 29 and will extend until Sunday, September 11.
