Australian Nick Kyrgios continues his steady progress in the Citi Open and advanced to the second round by defeating Marcos Giron, thanks to the help of a fan.

The first round of the Citi Open, the Washington Tournament of the US Open Series, was played normally and one of the great protagonists was Nick Kyrgios (ATP: 63). The outstanding Australian tennis player defeated the American Marcos Giron (ATP: 53) with a solid 2-0 and drew attention for his actions in the match point: he asked for help from a fan at the William Fitzgerald Tennis Center.

The level shown by the 'Bad boy' had been impressive, as he comfortably won 6-3 in the first set, in just 28 minutes of play; and jumped to the second game determined to secure the victory: he broke his opponent's serve twice and had the serve to seal the qualification (40:0 in the 5-2 partial).

Kyrgios, known for his violent serve, this time decided to seek help and approached a fan who was at the sports venue. Nick briefly talked to the fan, amidst the excitement of the crowd, and returned to the court, ready to put into practice the new tactic studied.

At first, the Australian failed and looked at the stands, disapproving the advice of his unexpected collaborator. However, the Wimbledon runner-up repeated the formula and this time he succeeded, consummating the decisive 6-2 and advancing to the second round of the Citi Open. The attendees celebrated the scene with cheers and applause.

So far, Kyrgios is showing a sustained level and aims to continue steadily until the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam of the season. Remember that recently, Nick and his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis were doubles champions at the Atlanta Open and they also focus on going far in that category (they won the title at the Australian Open early this year).

When will Nick Kyrgios play again?

Nick Kyrgios' next appearance will be in the round of 16 of the Citi Open, when he faces the American Tommy Paul (ATP: 34) this Wednesday, August 3rd (7:30 p.m.). Remember that the Australian is preparing for the US Open, which will start on Monday, August 29th and will run until Sunday, September 11th.
