Tennis players prepare to compete in the US Open

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will debut at the US Open against Uzbekistan's Dennis Istomin, while the world number 1, Serbian Novak Djokovic, will face Polish Jerzy Janowicz, and British Andy Murray, number 2, will play against Czech Lukas Rosol.

If the predictions hold true, Nadal and Djokovic would meet in the semifinals, while the world number 2 would face Japanese Kei Nishikori, another seeded player and number 7 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking, after today's draw in New York.

But before the hypothetical semifinal match against Djokovic, the Spanish tennis player, who has already won at Flushing Meadows in 2010 and 2013, could face his compatriot Roberto Bautista (17) in the round of 16, and in the quarterfinals with Canadian Milos Raonic, the current number 6 in the world.

The second best positioned Spanish player, David Ferrer (13), will debut against Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov (58), while Fernando Verdasco (46) will have to face the current world number 3, Swiss Stan Wawrinka, and in the first round there will be a match between Spaniards Roberto Bautista (17) and Guillermo García-López (50).

The other Spanish players in the competition are Albert Ramos, who will debut against Frenchman Julien Benneteau, Marcel Granollers (45), against Argentine Juan Mónaco, Feliciano López (18) against Croatian Borna Coric, Iñigo Cervantes (74) against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and Nicolás Almagro (46) and Pablo Carreño (49) against players yet to be determined.

Argentinian Federico Delbonis (43), the highest ranked player from his country in the world ranking, will debut against American Brian Baker, and in the first round there will be a match between Argentinians Juan Martín del Potro (142), who comes to New York strengthened after his silver medal in Rio, and Diego Schwartzman (68).

In the women's competition, the all-powerful Serena Williams will start in the first round against Russian Ekaterina Marakova (36), while the current world number 2, German Angelique Kerber, will face a yet to be determined player.

Spanish player Garbiñe Muguruza, number 3 in the world and recent winner at Roland Garros, will debut against another player yet to be determined, while her compatriot Carla Suárez Navarro (12) will face Brazilian Teliana Pereira (137) in her first match.
