Matteo Berrettini brings down the curtain on his unstable 2023 season. Far from the goals set at the beginning of the year and with very few matches played (only 23 with a record of 12-11), the current world No. 90 prefers to take care of his physical condition and "aim the guns" at 2024.
He announced it in a social media post: "Despite training at a high level for several weeks, my medical team has warned me that it would be a risk to compete in the final ATP tournaments of the season. It has been very difficult to accept this, but I need to do what's best for the next season and my long-term career. I will take this opportunity to reset, rebuild, and start the year completely fit and healthy".
And he continued: "It has been an extremely tough year, but I hope to have a full and successful season in 2024. I will stay in close contact with the Davis Cup captain and be available to support the Italian team in any way I can for the finals. Their support has helped me and continues to help me in very difficult times. Thank you very much. I truly appreciate it".
