World Wide Championship: Mexican Golfer Sebastian Vázquez Performs Well on First Day
In the start of the World Wide Championship held in Los Cabos, Sebastián Vázquez was the highest-ranked Mexican golfer in 71st place, with a total of 70 strokes and -2 under par. Australian golfer Cameron Percy leads the standings of the first day with a total of 62 strokes and -10 under par.
At the end of the first day, Sebastián shared his impressions of the start, stating that he was calm because "I finished the second round very well. Especially pleased with my performance on the 18th green. Now I need to work a bit with the driver. Get a feel for it to feel more confident with it tomorrow." He also added that on the first day, "I made a couple of weak shots at hole 4 and hole 8, which cost me dearly. The fairways are very wide, but if you miss, you're in the sand and can easily lose the ball. So, you have to keep it on the fairway. I think that cost me a bit today, but I maintained a good attitude and was able to recover in the second nine."

And although there were challenging moments, he was able to stay strong and correct some of the situations: "Yes, really well, because things turned around very quickly. I was two under hitting the ball very well and suddenly made a double bogey on the 8th, bogey on the 9th, and in the blink of an eye, I was one over. But the truth is that I remained calm. Obviously, it hurts when you make those mistakes, but I still had 9 holes left. I trusted that I was hitting it well and tried to stay calm because I know that the more I get angry and feel pressure, the worse it is. So, I managed to make a birdie and then on the 10th, I calmed down and hit the ball very well in the second round. So, I'm happy. We'll keep working for a while now and be ready for tomorrow."

Vázquez is aware that he needs to significantly improve his performance on Friday's round in order to make the cut, as only the top 65 players advance. "With this finish, I give myself a good chance tomorrow to shoot a low round and be in the fight. Every shot counts, and well, I think I had a pretty difficult shot on the 18th and hit a great shot. So, I'm very happy to have finished with a birdie and given myself chances in the second round."
