The Miz always had a pretentious attitude. He overvalues a talent he lacks. WWE came up with the idea of making him the 'mentor' of a wrestler who had earned the nickname 'Best in the World'. As seen on YouTube, the 2009 version of Night of Champions put things in their place.

Daniel Bryan debuted seven months before Night of Champions 2010, on the reality show NXT. He was part of the first season of the program. He had The Miz as his 'mentor': he got tired of humiliating him and telling him he had no 'charisma', as shown in the promo shared on YouTube.

American Dragon, as Bryan was known in independent wrestling companies, couldn't shine in WWE. He was eliminated from NXT. When he returned with The Nexus revolution he was fired. He didn't waste his second chance and 'hung' on The Miz to show why the audience considered him the 'best in the world'.

Bryan prevailed with the best he knows how to do: fight and apply submission holds. The Miz also gave him his best: hiding and being an arrogant braggart. YouTube shows how he had to resort to outside help to try to win, but it didn't work.

He didn't have a grown beard. The chant of 'Yes' didn't exist yet. He was single. He hadn't won anything important in WWE until that moment, but he was chosen as "Best Technical Wrestler" since 2005 and "Most Outstanding Wrestler" since 2006 by the prestigious Wrestling Observer magazine. He won those titles consecutively until 2013 and 2010, respectively.

BEFORE WWE, Daniel Bryan won 17 titles in independent wrestling companies, including his reign in Ring of Honor. Since winning the U.S. Championship in 2010, Bryan's career was on the rise, although injuries and his change of heel character hindered a more successful trajectory.
