The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed the ban on May 14, which prevented the player from participating in the World Cup. After an unsuccessful attempt to get FIFA to authorize his participation in Russia, the player requested the provisional suspension of the punishment from the Federal Tribunal of Switzerland, which granted it on May 31.
Regarding this situation, David Trezeguet valued "the demonstration of affection, of being supportive towards him" from players of different countries who are going to play in the World Cup, such as Uruguayans Diego Godín and Luis Suárez or French captain Hugo Lloris.
