Athlete David Torrence qualifies for the final of 5000 meters of Rio 2016 breaking the national record
David Torrence, a renowned athlete, has not only qualified for the final of the 5000 meters race at Rio 2016, but he has also broken the national record. He achieved a time of 13 minutes, 23 seconds, and 20 hundredths in the competition held yesterday.
As it is known, David represented the United States in the 2015 Pan American Games, where he won the silver medal. However, being of Peruvian descent, he decided to become a naturalized citizen and represent Peru in these Olympics.
"Since I was 6 years old, I used to go to Peru to visit my family, tourist places, and be a Peruvian all the time. At my grandma's house (in the United States) we have like a little Peru, we always eat Peruvian food, listen to Peruvian music, my parents are Peruvian, I feel like I am Peruvian," said David to an international media outlet.
David Torrence will participate in the grand final of the competition on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. Learn more in the sports section BDP:
