On the first day of track cycling competitions in Santiago 2023, there were surprising moments at the Peñalolén Velodrome.
A cause for great joy for Peru was the performance of cyclist Hugo Ruiz Calle, who was crowned with the gold medal in the Omnium discipline, marking the end of Tuesday's day.
Ruiz made history with this achievement, as it represents Peru's first Pan American gold medal in track cycling and is the second medal that the Andean country has obtained so far in these games in Chile.
The Peruvian cyclist stood at the top of the podium with a total of 125 points, leaving behind Mexican Ricardo Peña and Chilean Jacob Decar.
Thanks to the victories of Christian Pacheco and Hugo Ruiz in their respective disciplines, Peru has two gold medals in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. The medal tally is completed with one silver medal and seven bronze medals.
