The disappointment and distrust seem to be the predominant feelings among the followers of the Peruvian National Football Team. This atmosphere has been generated as a result of the recent statements made by Juan Reynoso and Ricardo Gareca, two emblematic figures of the king sport in our country.

EXPERT OPINION

According to social psychologist Jorge Yamamoto, Reynoso's expressions have undermined the trust and identity that the fans had with their team. The comments made by the Peruvian coach about two young promises of national soccer have been the last straw for many followers.

For Yamamoto, in the recent statements from the Argentine coach, he made it clear that his faith in Peruvian players remains intact.

"What Professor Gareca is telling us is that Peruvians do have competitiveness, they have determination, they just need to find good leadership to bring out the best of what we have," he said.

We are facing two different moments and two opinions that differ on how Peruvians are. But there is something that must not be lost: trust and identity. Two elements that have been fundamental in the relationship between the fans and the national team.
