The Peruvian national team keeps talking
following the poor results in the double matchday of Qualifiers 2026. One of those who referred to this situation is commentator Diego Rebagliati, who specifically referred to Paolo Guerrero and the statements he made at the airport before returning to Ecuador to join his club.

During the broadcast of the program "D&T" with Talía Azcarate, Diego Rebagliati decided to talk about Paolo Guerrero's statements against journalist Eddie Fleischman. One of his first remarks was: "what Paolo said is nonsense, it doesn't make sense, it doesn't have any basis. Thank God, we can speak because we have played. Disqualify those who haven't played? In fact, I would disqualify a lot of coaches and people who have surely contributed to his career. Therefore, it doesn't withstand any analysis, it is an old, cliché, and silly phrase from old footballers".
In response, Talía Azcárate added: "For me, the feeling it leaves me is a lack of control. I haven't seen that version of Paolo Guerrero since 2009", this led to a new argument from the former Sporting Cristal executive.
"There is frustration, lack of control, lack of leadership. We are going back to 2009, being that uncontrolled national team where we all fought against each other", said Diego Rebagliati about Paolo Guerrero's case and his shocking statements.
What did Paolo Guerrero say?
Before returning to Ecuador, Paolo Guerrero stated at the airport to the press: "There are journalists who criticize a lot and have never played football. They have never kicked a ball or known a ball. Who have they beaten? They criticize the national team and criticize me. When have they set foot on a football field? I won't talk anymore. Let that Eddie Fleischman guy tell me to my face when he has set foot on a field".
