The World Cup player Christian Ramos is getting ready to play his first match with Sport Boys in Callao. Tomorrow's opponent will be tough, as Sporting Cristal comes as the leader of the Clausura, however, the 'Sombra' is sure that they will achieve a positive result in the reopening of the Miguel Grau stadium, which will be completely full. The experienced pink defender also spoke with LÍBERO about his future in 2024.
What happened to the team that didn't win in six matches?
We were playing well except for the match against Melgar, they dominated us and won. Then in the others, we were disconnected in attack and defense. We also didn't know how to maintain the advantage against ADT and Grau, who ended up tying us in the end. That was very bad. Fortunately, we corrected it against Municipal.
As the leader of the group, what was your message to your teammates in the difficult moments?
The message was always the same. That we have to be more alert, concentrated, and have a winning mentality, that at some point we were going to win. We are aware that we depend on ourselves.
Is this Boys team only fighting to maintain their category?
Before, we believed that we were able to compete in an international tournament. We were excited after the victory against Alianza, but the matches we didn't win changed the situation. Now we have to take it step by step. There is an important match coming up, winning it will be a special motivation to maybe fight for something more.
Sporting Cristal goes to Callao, can you imagine the party that will be held at Miguel Grau?
Yes, because the fans will fill the stadium. We have played in Villa El Salvador, in Gallardo, and even in Monumental, far from Callao but they have still come to support us. Now that we will be locals in Callao, it will be crazy and they should rest assured because we will represent them well, as the pink shirt should be defended.
The opponent comes as the leader of the Clausura, are they the favorites despite being visitors in Callao?
Cristal is always the favorite in Liga 1 and will be. Take it for granted. They are the leader and have been winning all their matches. With our game, with the support of the people in Callao, we will make them uncomfortable and want to defeat them.
What did you tell Fabrizio Roca for his first call-up to the Peruvian national team?
I liked that he was called up because he is a boy who always listens and is ready to learn. We talk often about Boys, he asks me about my experiences in the national team. I told him to absorb everything and observe the environment, because at some point he will be considered for official matches where he will have to learn from historical forwards like Paolo Guerrero, from how he walks and how he positions himself. That opportunity will not always be for everyone.
How does the club and its people treat you?
They treat me very well, and that's why my desire is to continue in Boys. It is a popular institution, a great one in Peru, and if I stay in 2024, I want to fight higher. I signed for two years, but you never know what can happen in the future.
