Universitario de Deportes wants to make a big impact in the transfer market for the 2023 Liga 1 title and a good Copa Sudamericana. After signing Martín Pérez Guedes, the team will try to hire an experienced defender who has a history with Alianza Lima.
According to journalist Manuel Gonzalo from Diario Líbero, the 'merengue' squad is close to signing Carlos Beltrán, a player who played for Cienciano in the last season.
"If Carlos Beltrán hasn't signed yet, he should be signing his contract with Universitario", the journalist said on his social media.

As a reminder, Beltrán was a key player for Alianza Lima in 2019, the year in which the 'blanquiazul' team was the national runner-up. Also, the Argentine player, naturalized Peruvian, was part of the 'íntimo' team that was close to losing its category in 2020.
