Ricardo Gareca did not accept the renewal offer from the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), which is now looking for a successor to the 64-year-old Argentine coach who led the Peruvian National Team for seven years. One of the latest names rumored at Videna is that of former footballer Santiago Solari, reported TYC Sports from Argentina.

Solari's last coaching experience was at Club America in Mexico, where he was fired in March 2022. He only managed to secure one victory in 8 matches played in the 2022 Clausura Tournament with the 'Eagles'. The Peruvian player Pedro Aquino was part of his squad at the Mexican club.

Solari also had the opportunity to be the coach of Real Madrid, but he left his position after a series of poor results.

On the other hand, Hernan Crespo is also considered as one of the options for the FPF's coaching position for the national team. However, his contract with Al Duhail in Qatar until June 2023 complicates his arrival.

FPF on contact with Hernan Crespo

Arturo Ignacio Rios, president of Atletico Grau and executive of the FPF, was present at the meeting with Ricardo Gareca in Argentina. Upon his return to Lima, he did not comment on whether he had met with Crespo's agent.

Peruvian clubs criticize FPF for Gareca's departure

Universitario, Alianza Lima, and Cienciano issued a statement criticizing how the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) managed the departure of the coach of the Peruvian National Team, Ricardo Gareca, whose non-renewal was made official on Friday.

"The FPF's terrible management in the negotiation with coach Ricardo Gareca has shamefully exposed, both nationally and internationally, the institution that governs our football," the statement said.

They state that the failure to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup has highlighted the "poor organization of the championships" and "the non-transparent handling" that the federation makes of the clubs' football assets.
