Peruvian National Team: The last time they earned six points in a double qualifying matchday [VIDEO]

Miercoles 10 de Noviembre del 2021

The Peruvian National Team needs to earn all six points in this double matchday of the qualifiers to keep the dream alive of reaching Qatar 2022.

Countdown for a double day of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers

The Peruvian National Team is five points away from the playoff zone, so they need to earn the maximum number of points to dream of a spot in the next World Cup. This has not been possible in these qualifiers, but in the 2018 Russia edition, the team led by Ricardo Gareca was able to achieve the feat of six consecutive points.

It all started on August 31st, 2017

The Peruvian National Team played their home game at the Monumental Stadium against Bolivia. The first goal was scored by Edison Flores, who with a left-footed shot from outside the box opened the scoring and caused a frenzy among the fans.

Shortly after, the team led by Ricardo Gareca relied on the brilliance of Christian Cueva, who dribbled past Bolivian defenders to find space for a long-range shot. The opposing goalkeeper failed to save the ball, and the team celebrated a 2-0 victory. In the end, this match ended with a 2-1 victory in favor of the national team.

September 5th, 2017

The Peruvian National Team faced the difficult task, or almost impossible task, of defeating Ecuador in Quito. They were seeking their first victory in the qualifiers, and once again Edison Flores stepped up to score a long-range goal and make it 0-1.

The motivation was evident in the Peruvian National Team, who quickly found a 0-2 lead with Paolo Hurtado, who had just entered the field. Christian Cueva provided a great assist for "El Caballito" to extend the lead in favor of the national team. Finally, the team achieved a 1-2 victory to secure six out of six points in a double day of the qualifiers.

Replicating the feat

Now, it is hoped that the Peruvian National Team can achieve a similar feat as in the past qualifiers, where these six points were crucial to reaching the World Cup in Russia 2018.
