Our compatriot Aydee Loayza Huamán sets her winning mark in the United States
Our compatriot Aydee Loayza Huamán made her mark as the winner in the United States. The national athlete won the Miami Marathon 42K with a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 52 seconds.
Loayza Huamán, a 25-year-old woman from Cusco, surpassed her rivals by almost eight minutes, especially Lana Gobert from Aruba, who finished in second place.
"I love running long distances and athletes in Peru invited me to come. So I said, 'Let's give it a try!'" Aydee told the Miami Herald.
"Everything was so beautiful! I enjoyed seeing the cruises and the ocean, and I loved the part where there were many trees (in Coconut Grove). I loved that people were always cheering me on. That motivated me a lot," added our new national pride.
Unfortunately, the Peruvian long-distance runner was not able to achieve the qualifying time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which is 2h29m30s, but she will surely try again.
