After losing 3-0 to Academia Cantolao, Pirata FC held on to the possibility of Sport Boys losing at home to wait for a miracle. But it didn't happen: the 'Misilera' won 4-2 against Melgar at the Miguel Grau del Callao and sent the Chiclayo team down.
With three rounds remaining in the Torneo Clausura of the Liga 1, with nine points at stake, Pirata FC has 21 points, 10 less than the pink team, located in the antepenultimate position and therefore outside the relegation zone. Mathematically, the team led by Carlos Cortijo no longer has a chance to stay in the First Division. Thus, in 2020 they will be in the Liga 2.
Pirata FC reached the Liga 1 after being the champion of the 2018 Copa Perú under the command of Juan Carlos Bazalar. This season, the Chiclayo squad has played 31 matches: won five, tied nine, and lost the remaining 17. They scored 25 goals and conceded 53.
The teams fighting to escape the relegation zone are San Martín (who will visit César Vallejo on Sunday) with 28 points, Sport Boys and Municipal with 31 points (Academia will face 'U' on Sunday). Mannucci (36), Alianza Universidad (37), and UTC (37) don't have it so difficult.
