The Peruvian Surf team won its first Pan American medal, after Itzel Delgado won the bronze in the stand-up paddle race event, but they are not the only ones who could win a medal. Peruvians Vania Torres, Tamil Martino, Daniella Rosas, Lucca Mesinas, and 'Piccolo' Clemente will fight to get on the podium at Lima 2019.
The day started with the stand-up paddle race competitions, where Peruvian Giannisa Vecco finished sixth in the women's category, while Itzel Delgado placed third, winning Peru's first Pan American medal in surfing.
Meanwhile, Vania Torres and Tamil Martino advanced to the semifinals in the stand-up paddle, defeating Americans Candice Appleby and Daniel Hughes, respectively. Torres will compete against Brazilian Nicole Pacelli for a medal, while Tamil will face Colombian Giorgio Gómez.
On the other hand, Daniella Rosas and Lucca Mesinas will do their best to reach the podium in Open surf. Both will compete on Saturday at noon against Ecuadorian Dominic Barona and Salvadorian Bryan Pérez, respectively, for a spot in the final.
María Fernanda Reyes is giving her all to reach the final in Women's Longboard. She lost in the main round 2, so she entered the repechage phase. Her good performance has made her advance to round 4, where she will face Argentine María Gil Boggan for a spot in the final.
'Piccolo' Clemente promised to reach the podium and is just one step away from achieving it. The Peruvian surfer will face American Cole Robbins on Saturday for a spot in the final, where he hopes to secure another medal for Peru.

For the first time in the history of the Pan American Games, surfing will have medalists. The modality that will be awarded this Friday is the SUP (Stand Up Paddleboards) race, and Peru has two representatives.
Giannisa Vecco, in the women's category, will be the first to compete for a medal for the national delegation starting at nine in the morning. An hour later, Itzel Delgado will do the same in the men's category.
On the other hand, the local delegation has a chance to fight for the gold medal in stand-up paddle surfing. Tamil Martino will face Daniel Hughes from the United States (3:15 p.m.) and Vania Torres will compete against Candice Appleby, starting at 4:07 p.m. (Peru time).
María Fernanda Reyes wants to continue in Lima 2019 and will participate in the third round of repechage in the longboard category. The Peruvian will face American Tiare Thompson starting at 1:03 p.m. (Peru time).
Finally, Melanie Giunta will try to advance to the fifth repechage stage in women's surfing. The national surfer will have to defeat Argentine Ornella Pellizzari starting at 2:27 p.m. (Peru time).
