Peruvian surfer Lucca Mesinas won a new gold medal for Peru at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games by defeating Venezuelan Francisco Bellorin in the final of the men's shortboard competition.
In the final held at Punta de Lobos beach, the Peruvian surfer achieved a total score of 13.16, while his Venezuelan rival reached 9.10.
In this way, Mesinas became a two-time Pan American champion and secured a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Excellent day for Peruvian surfing
Earlier, Benoit 'Piccolo' Clemente won the Pan American Championship in longboard by defeating Chilean Rafael Cortez, with a total score of 12.16 (compared to his opponent's 10.37).
Meanwhile, in the women's longboard final, Peruvian María Fernanda Reyes defeated Brazilian Chloe Calmon and also won gold at the present edition of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
Earlier, Vania Torres and Miguel Tudela won bronze medals in SUP Surf and shortboard, respectively.
With Lucca Mesinas' victory, the Peruvian team secured their sixth gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
