Paolo Guererro will have FIFA as his biggest defender in the hearing he will face in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) on May 3rd, where the Flamengo forward and the Peruvian national team are seeking his acquittal. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has requested an extension of his six-month sanction to two years.

I have no doubt that WADA's intervention is concerning but also untimely. I have full confidence in Paolo's defense," he insisted in Ovation.

Remember that the same happened with the points they took from Bolivia and gave to Peru due to the improper registration of a player in the World Cup qualifiers, a decision that was later upheld by the TAS."

The reason behind Paolo Guerrero's appeal to the TAS

The fact that Paolo Guerrero appealed to the TAS and did not settle for FIFA's sentence has a reason according to Javier Quintana. "We have to understand Paolo Guerrero, in a subjective standpoint he could have said 'I'm free to play in the World Cup, I'll stay quiet', however he has a reputation, contracts with sponsors that have penalty clauses, which are legally dangerous. And I believe he acted correctly in seeking absolute innocence," he said.
