Ricardo Gareca, the coach of the Peruvian National Team, held a press conference following the outcome of the New Zealand vs. Peru match at Wellington's Westpac Stadium.
The 'Tigre' stated that he did not feel 'upset or dissatisfied' with the goalless draw in the first leg of the World Cup 2018 playoff.
"I have to congratulate the boys for their effort. It's a difficult pitch, against a tough opponent that we have analyzed, and we did what we aimed for," expressed the 'Bicolor' coach.
He highlighted the effort of his players in every play and trusts in securing qualification in Lima.
"There is nothing easy for us. All the matches we have played have been challenging. I trust that we can have a good home game with all our potential," Gareca said.
In addition, the coach of the 'Bicolor' stated that the opponent 'did things well' to neutralize Peru, so both teams have chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
The team gave everything on the field, held nothing back. And we have to acknowledge that the opponent is very tough (...) In the first half, there was a phase that we could have resolved and we were not clear enough in the final third," the Argentine strategist lamented.
Finally, Ricardo Gareca pointed out that, in his opinion, the 'Blanquirroja' deserved to leave Wellington with a victory; however, they were unable to convert their chances into goals. Meanwhile, the 'All Whites' national team improved in the second half of the game.
"I liked the first half, but in the second half, New Zealand closed down more, and it was difficult for us to break through their defensive block," he added.
