Leao Butrón is the man of the moment in Peruvian football after his outstanding performance in Alianza Lima's victory over Sporting Cristal. The possibility of returning to the Peruvian national team is also on the horizon and gains more strength after the words of the national team goalkeeper coach, Alfredo Honores.
"Butrón is under consideration, as well as the goalkeepers who are usually called up (Gallese, Cáceda and Carvallo). What he is doing is admirable," said Honores on the La Cátedra radio program.
The reasons why Leao Butrón could be called up to the Peruvian national team, despite being 40 years old
However, Honores clarified that the final decision lies with coach Ricardo Gareca, who is already planning for the matches against Bolivia and Ecuador for the World Cup qualifiers and needs Honores' report to define the selected players.
Gareca's assistant showered praise on Alianza Lima's goalkeeper, not only for his performance at the Estadio Nacional last Wednesday. "What he is doing is admirable, he is showing incredible self-love and determination. He is setting a great example for the younger players," emphasized Honores.
Honores explained that the Peruvian national team is open to all players. In that sense, he indicated that the coaching staff observes players in every game of the Descentralizado.
