The XII South American Games Asunción 2022 began last Saturday and the Peruvian delegation added a gold medal this Sunday thanks to Deivid Tuesta's victory in skateboarding. Now, Alexia Sotomayor has won a bronze medal in swimming on this second day of the competition.

The national athlete rose to the podium by placing third in the 50-meter backstroke event. Andrea Eliana (Argentina) took first place, while María Luiza De Carvalho (Brazil) took second place.

The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) communicated the news through its official Twitter account. Instantly, users shared the publication and made it viral on social networks. In addition, they praised the national athlete.

"We are proud of you", "Keep representing Peru well", "You are an excellent athlete", or "I wish you the best success in your future", were some of the congratulations.

Which countries participate in the Asunción 2022 South American Games?

Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Curacao, Ecuador, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela will compete in 53 disciplines. Of these sports, only 25 will grant a ticket to the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that Angelo Caro and Alexandra Grande were selected as the flag bearers of the Peruvian delegation. The skateboarder, the karateka, and a group of athletes appeared at the opening ceremony on Saturday, October 1, at the facilities of the Defensores del Chaco stadium, located in the capital of Paraguay.
