In sports complexes, the authorities of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport (Conade) have been seen watching the competitions of Mexican athletes, especially when there is a possibility of winning a gold medal. However, the division between the two institutions is noticeable in sports events because the directors of each organization sit in different places.
In boxing, it was a clear example that the authorities of COM and Conade have a lack of communication and joint support for the Mexican athletes. In one section of the venue reserved for the 'Pan American Family', the head of the Mexican Olympic Committee, María José Alcalá, and the Chief of Mission, Fernando Platas, are seen, while in another section, a few meters away, the directors of Conade such as the quality subdirector, Israel Benítez, and the head of high performance, Rut Castillo, are sitting.
For the former director of Conade and now executive president of the Mexican Football Federation, Ivar Sisniega, it is lamentable that there is this division between both institutions and that it is harming the athletes.
"Simply when I was in front of Conade, my idea was that we will always achieve better results when there is communication and coordination, and when we work as a team. That is currently lacking a bit, it is a shame, but the athletes deserve that the leaders can work together to coordinate support and guarantee the best results," said Sisniega, who directed Conade from 1994 to 2000.
A recent case of the division between COM and Conade is that the organization led by Ana Guevara wanted to change the flag bearers for the Pan American Games, and COM disagreed. The reaction of Conade was to withdraw the doctors from the athletes for two days, so the athletes were the ones affected.
Enjoy the competitions and remember old moments
When Mexico is not playing in football, Ivar Sisniega has been seen attending various competitions of the national delegation participating in the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, so his passion for other sports remains intact.
"That doesn't go away and is not forgotten, and I was part of the organization of the Pan American Games until about four months ago, and now, without the pressure, I have the opportunity to watch the performance of Mexican athletes, such as pentathletes, divers, and boxers. I am delighted to be here, and there has been a good performance by the Mexican delegation. There have been great performances and a constant growth, and many athletes have trained in their states. Mexico has the potential to stand out in many sports, not just a few," he mentioned.
