Concacaf: What happens if there is an away goal?
In some tournaments in recent years, such is the case of the Liga MX and the UEFA Champions League, the away goal has been eliminated as a tiebreaker criterion. This is why we will tell you if the same rules apply in the Concacaf Champions League, also known as the Concachampions.
To start, it should be noted that the matches from the Round of 16 to the Grand Final will be played in two legs. The winner will be the one who scores the most goals within the 180 minutes of the series.
Concacaf Final
For the final, the away goal will not count and, unlike the previous stages, if there is a tie on aggregate, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played and if the tie persists, the champion will be determined by penalties.
Mexican teams' outlook for the Round of 16 Second Leg
Atlas
If Atlas manages to win the second leg against Olimpia 3-0, they will tie the aggregate 4-4, which would qualify them due to the away goal.
Tigres
A victory or a draw with goals in the second leg against Orlando City will qualify Tigres due to away goals.
León
If León were to lose 1-0 in the second leg against Tauro FC, they would go directly to penalties due to the 1-0 victory as the away team in the first leg. A victory or draw in the last 90 minutes will qualify them to the Quarterfinals.
Pachuca
Pachuca needs to win the second leg against Motagua since a 0-0 draw would result in a penalty shootout and a tie with goals would eliminate them due to away goals.
