América convincingly defeated Guadalajara 2-0, thanks to a double by Julián Quiñones, who received his naturalization letter as a Mexican a few days ago, in an edition of the Clásico Nacional played in the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California.

Approximately 87,000 fans of both América and the Guadalajara club packed the stands, with a capacity for about 90,000 spectators, in what was the most attended Mexican football match in this venue and, in addition, in the history of the United States.

The first 20 minutes of the match left much more show off the field than on it, with most of the possessions in the midfield and without creating any danger until the attacking third.

However, the team coached by Veljko Paunović, who repeated the lineup from last week's victory against Atlas in the Liga MX, tried to improve their performance with an associative game that got the blue and cream defense closer and closer to their goalkeeper.

These were the moments of greater lucidity and danger for the team from Jalisco, who from the 25th to the 27th minute had a triple chance with a recovery that left Ricardo Marín alone against Óscar Jiménez but failed to convert.

Then came a dangerous cross from Beltrán that went through the penalty area and a header from Guzmán that also did not cross the goal line.

Just when Chivas were at their best, with the double pivot of Fidalgo and Dos Santos struggling to stop their opponent's attacks, a quick transition in the 30th minute ended with a strike from outside the area by Quiñones that found its way into Miguel Jiménez's goal.

Chivas tried unsuccessfully until halftime, with high pressure that the Brazilian André Jardine's boys couldn't get rid of, and several dangerous opportunities from Marín, Guzmán, and Brizuela.

During the first 10 minutes of the second half, Quiñoness headed in a cross from the young Bruce El-Mesmari. Shortly after, Jardine substituted Quiñones himself, who was still the most outstanding player of the match, scoring two goals and offering great defensive help to his team in a fierce battle with central defender Antonio Briseño.

América had up to ten absences for this match due to the call-ups of their players to their respective national teams, but they showed more consistency, especially in the second half. Fidalgo, Suárez, and a much more accurate El-Mesmari in the second half pressed the rojiblancos so much that in the 75th minute they put an end to the match.

Chivas will visit Puebla and América will host Santos in the resumption of the Liga MX.
