Condemnable facts: Fans throw objects at 'Tata' Martino after Mexico's defeat [VIDEO]

Miercoles 28 de Septiembre del 2022

The Mexican national team's fans threw objects at Gerardo Martino. The Argentine coach left the field accompanied by a group of security agents, after the defeat against Colombia in a friendly match.

Gerardo Martino is going through one of the most complicated moments since he took over the Mexican National Team and weeks away from the 2022 World Cup Qatar. If he was criticized after defeating Peru 1-0, the questioning was more ruthless after losing to Colombia 3-2. The 'Tata's' team was winning 2-0 at halftime.

The truth is that, before being lambasted by the Mexican press, the Argentine coach felt the rejection from the fans who came to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. After the final whistle, the coach and his entire technical staff left the field of the United States venue.

Martino crossed the field and was surrounded by security agents. Before leaving the 'green', the coach crouched down, touched the grass, and made the sign of the cross. Meanwhile, insults were heard from the stands against him and calls for him to resign as the 'Tricolor' coach despite the proximity of Qatar 2022.

Mexican fans' expressions went further. When 'Tata' Martino was about to cross the tunnel to access the interior of the stadium, objects were thrown at the South American from the stands. The most thrown were cups filled with drinks that could have directly hit the former Barcelona coach.

Tata Martino's analysis

The Argentine believes that the 'Tri' suffered the defeat against the 'cafeteros' due to specific mistakes, as from his perception, they were not overcome. "We recognize that we lost a match that we were winning 2-0, I don't think we were ever completely outplayed, we had 15 minutes where we were unfocused," he said in a press conference.

Continuing with the positive aspects, 'Tata' emphasized: "Having a first half of the best in 4 years, even being able to have scored another goal, and having the rebelliousness of the last 15 minutes when we went out to seek the match with many young players who are playing their first matches with the national team. That's what I take away from it."

Mexico's schedule in Qatar 2022

  • November 26, Mexico vs. Argentina
  • November 30, Mexico vs. Saudi Arabia
