WATCH - Ecuador goes to the World Cup following the Byron Castillo case: FIFA rejects Chile's claim again
The FIFA Appeals Committee has ruled on the appeals filed by the Chilean Football Federation (FFCH) and the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) against the decision taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee regarding the possible breach by Byron David Castillo Segura of the selection criteria to participate with the Ecuadorian National Federation (FEF) in eight qualifying matches, corresponding to the preliminary phase of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
After analyzing the documentation received from the parties and holding the corresponding hearing, the Appeals Committee has ratified the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to close the investigation against the FEF. Based on the documentation received, among other considerations, it has been deemed that the player should be considered as a holder of permanent Ecuadorian nationality, in accordance with art. 5, par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes Application Regulations.
The decisions of the Appeals Committee have been notified to the parties today. This decision is subject to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
What is Chile Claiming?
The National Professional Football Association (ANFP) went to FIFA's offices stating that Byron Castillo was not born in Ecuador but in Colombia, and that he had falsified his identity documents. They are demanding a sanction for the player and for the 'Tri', which could lead to being excluded from the World Cup.
However, it is worth mentioning that FIFA initially rejected Chile's request and responded that no alterations were found in the case.
