FIFA sanctions Eugenio Figueredo for bribery
The Independent Ethics Committee of the FIFA has declared Eugenio Figueredo "guilty of violating the FIFA Code of Ethics for bribery" and announced that he has been "banned for life" from any football-related activities, as announced today by the governing body of world football.
In a statement, FIFA explained that the Disciplinary Committee's ruling states that "the former president of CONMEBOL violated Article 27 (Bribery) of the Code of Ethics," as indicated in the same statement shared on the entity's website.
Consequently, the former Uruguayan executive has been sanctioned "for life from participating in any football-related activity at national and international level". He has also been fined one million Swiss francs (approximately 914,000 euros).
Eugenio Figueredo was investigated in relation to a series of bribes between 2004 and 2015, linked to his role in the awarding of television and marketing rights for CONMEBOL tournaments.
