Awer Mabil, author of one of the penalties in Australia vs. Peru in the Qatar 2022 play-off, will play in La Liga.

The classification of Australia to the Qatar 2022 World Cup is starting to pay off for the team. And it's because Awer Mabil, a young forward of Sudanese origin, has signed with LaLiga's Cádiz of Spain.

A few weeks ago, Australia defeated Peru in the playoff and secured its ticket to the World Cup. The decision went to penalties and there Awer Mabil didn't fail. The 26-year-old forward scored and later celebrated with his teammates in Al-Rayyán.

The Australian arrived in Europe in 2015 from Adelaide United. In the 'Old Continent', he defended the colors of Midtylland and Esbjerg in Denmark, Paços de Ferreira in Portugal, and Kasimpasa in Turkey. Now, he will have his first adventure in one of the five major leagues.

“It's a dream come true. For me, it means everything as a footballer to sign with Cádiz and reach LaLiga. I'm very excited and eager to start already. I never imagined I could play against Real Madrid and Barcelona. Now it's a reality, I have to work hard. I will give my best to win games, playing against the big teams will be even more special. I'm looking forward to starting all these challenges,” said the striker in his presentation with the Spanish team.

WHO IS AWER MABIL?

He was born on September 15, 1995, in a refugee camp in Kenya after his parents fled the conflict in Sudan, surviving on one meal a day. After settling in Australia in 2006, he signed with Adelaide United, where he began his professional career.
