11 years have passed since that season when Juan Aurich achieved the only star in its history, and the coach who led the team to victory, Colombian Diego Umaña, took the floor to give details about what happened in those 3 playoff matches.
In an interview with En la Cancha, the strategist recalled how the fight for the national title went.

"After losing in Chiclayo, we talked face to face at the dinner table and committed ourselves to winning in Lima, and we were able to get things done," said the former coach of the Ciclón.
"In the match in Lima, we were able to score many goals because we had several shots hit the post. Things happened that way, and finally we were able to go to the third match and win," Umaña added.
He would love to return
Umaña considered that during the time he was in Chiclayo, he felt very supported by the fans, who always stood by the team.
"It is one of those fanbases that always supports its players and gives everything for the team... If I were to return to coaching, the only team I would go to is Aurich," Umaña said on the occasion of the centenary.
Finally, Diego Umaña remembered with great sentiment the work of Carlos Perleche, the former team manager of the Ciclón, whom he considers very much.
"A very kind, respectful person, who was always willing to support and work with great sacrifice for the team," he commented.
