The Peruvian soccer has historic clubs, which are not necessarily the so-called "big ones," but rather those from the provinces, who have a large fan base and who once "excelled," even on the international stage. One of them is Juan Aurich from Chiclayo, which today, September 3rd, celebrates its 101st anniversary since its foundation.

The history of the Cyclone is rich, despite the changes in its corporate structure throughout its history. The fans identified themselves with the red and white colors and never stopped supporting. The northern team was the national runner-up in 1968 and qualified for the Copa Libertadores of the following year along with Sporting Cristal, becoming the first provincial team to achieve an international qualification.

That team was built to revive the Chiclayo team, after the tragic accident in 1953 on the Trujillo - Chiclayo route, where the majority of the delegation members died, who were coming from playing a match in the spring land.

In 2011, Juan Aurich became national champion for the first time in its history by defeating Alianza Lima in a third defining match that ended in penalties. The Chiclayo team was trending at that time due to the great investment made and the hierarchy of its squad.

From 2010 to 2015, Juan Aurich had glorious years, playing in the Copa Libertadores and even eliminating Estudiantes Tecos from Guadalajara in the previous phase (they won in Chiclayo and also in Mexico), as well as in the Copa Sudamericana.

Today, the Chiclayo team is in Liga 2, striving to enter the hexagonal. However, its chances are remote due to the poor results it has obtained.

Juan Aurich celebrates its 101st anniversary on September 3rd. And although the centenary went unnoticed, fans continue to celebrate with chants through the streets of Chiclayo and messages on social media, with the dream of seeing their beloved Cyclone from the North again.
