The Brazilian will be Gustavo Costas' replacement in the Bolivia National Team in the 2026 Qualifiers
A new coach for the South American qualifiers. The Bolivian Football Federation confirmed the dismissal of Gustavo Costas and Antonio Carlos Zago will take over the reins of the national team. The Brazilian strategist was presented on October 31st as the new coach for the upcoming matches of the CONMEBOL tournament.
"The qualifiers started two months ago, so I believe we can fight, even if we haven't earned any points. The most important thing is Peru, that's the goal. We shouldn't talk about anything else, that would be for another press conference, the important thing now is to think about the next match against Peru," he said in his press conference.
"The plan is to try to improve the youth categories, work with the young players that I really like. At Bolivar, I think we have done a great job. We have Julio (Baldivieso) who will be there every day with the coaches, watching their work, trying to improve, creating new players for Bolivia in the future," added the Brazilian.
Zago has a contract with the FBF until September 2025, the date when the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup will end. The former coach of Bolivar, with whom he won the 2022 Apertura Tournament, also won the Brazilian Serie B with Bragantino. He has also worked with Palmeiras, Coritiba, and in Japanese football.
