The Peruvian National Team is going through a new process under the guidance of Juan Reynoso and the main goal is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in three venues: United States, Mexico, and Canada. Therefore, while waiting for the confirmation of the start of the Qualifiers -apparently in September-, the friendly matches of the March FIFA double date against Germany and Morocco will be of great importance.
Antonio García Pye will be in charge of logistics and planning for these matches. He spoke with 'Ovación' and gave the first details of how the 'Blanquirroja' delegation will work. Let's remember that the match against the 'Panthers' will be played in Mainz (Germany) on Saturday, March 25th, and against the Moroccan national team in Madrid on Tuesday, March 28th.
“After having the option to play against Germany, we were presented with options from Asia, Arabia, and Europe to play our second friendly match and our idea was to play in Europe, preferably in Spain, so one of the businessmen made an effort and we got the match against Morocco. Without a doubt, it was a very good alternative and the technical command of the Peruvian National Team gave their approval”, said the national teams manager of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).
Since the matches will be in Europe, García Pye commented that they plan to travel in advance to avoid any inconvenience. “The intention is to establish ourselves in Madrid, and one day before the match we will travel to Germany and then return to play against Morocco on the 28th. Between March 20th and 21st, all players should already be gathered in Spain”, he added.
More friendlies for the Peruvian National Team
According to Gastón Edul, journalist from 'TyC Sports', the Qualifiers for the next World Cup will start in September. While waiting for this to be confirmed by CONMEBOL, the National Team needs to play as many matches as possible in order to arrive in optimal conditions for the start of this new journey towards a World Cup.
For this reason, Antonio García Pye revealed that there are several proposals for friendly matches and the technical command is analyzing them. However, everything will depend on CONMEBOL giving the green light for the start of the Qualifiers, which would facilitate the scheduling of the upcoming FIFA dates.
“We have several proposals to play against some opponents, but everything is subject to the start of the Qualifiers, and that's why we are working on all this calmly. We don't always seek top-level opponents, but we do have proposals from important countries. The thing is, we have to consider the needs that may arise at each moment and evaluate the long distances we have to fly”, he added.
For example, for Asia and Arabia, we have to make flights of more than 20 hours and there are time changes of up to 14 hours, so we can't wear out the players so much just to play against a top opponent. We will sit down with the technical command and carefully consider their priorities, taking into account that sports always have the priority here and then economic issues and other things are analyzed”, he concluded.
