Unfortunate News for WWE's Cruiserweight Division
The day starts with unfortunate news for WWE, and specifically for its cruiserweight division, as just a few hours ago wrestler Rich Swann has been arrested on charges of assault and kidnapping an adult, as confirmed.
There isn't much information available at the moment. It is known that Swann is currently behind bars on charges of assault or personal injury (battery) and false imprisonment. The latter charge has slight legal differences in US law compared to the word "kidnap" in Spanish, as it does not necessarily involve physical deprivation of liberty, but rather the prevention of movement through other means, and as such it is considered a minor offense.
Thanks to Pro Wrestling Sheet, it is also known that the arrest took place at midnight today, Sunday, December 10, 2017.
On the other hand, it is unknown who the victim in the case was, or if it was Su Yung, the independent wrestler whom Swann married in March of this year. If that is the case, Swann would be facing a major setback in his WWE career, as the company has strict policies regarding domestic violence. An arrest for domestic violence would result in the immediate suspension of the implicated wrestler, as was the case with Adam Rose, and a conviction would lead to his dismissal.
This situation becomes even more lamentable when considering that Swann was scheduled to compete tomorrow on Monday Night Raw against Drew Gulak in a match that could have made him a contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship once again.
For now, the company has not yet commented on Rich Swann's legal situation, but it is likely to do so in the coming hours. SÚPER LUCHAS will keep you informed of any updates.
