The Peruvian tennis player Juan Pablo Varillas, ranked 69th in the ATP ranking, said goodbye to the European Open 2023, a tournament of the 250 category of the circuit, after being defeated by Frenchman Arthur Fils, who occupies the 38th place in the world ranking and was the fourth seed in the competition.

The match, which lasted 57 minutes, showed a clear dominance by Fils on the cement surface. In the first set, the Frenchman won convincingly with a score of 6-0.

Despite a better performance by Varillas in the second set, the 19-year-old Frenchman secured his place in the semifinals with a score of 6-3.

It is worth noting that, to reach the quarterfinals, Juan Pablo Varillas had defeated two top 100 players, Hungarian Fabian Marozsan and Russian Alexander Shevchenko.
