Cotto did know that he had something in his left bicep, what he did not know was that it was an injury that would require surgery. He thanked the fans for supporting him throughout his long boxing career.

"I feel good about the performance. Something happened to my left bicep... I don't want to make excuses, Sadam won the fight, it's my last fight. I am proud and I want to be happy at home with my family."
"Thanks to everyone. Thanks to all the fans. I am proud that Madison Square Garden is my second home. I had the opportunity to give the best to my family thanks to this sport."
In an interview, Hector Soto, partner of Promociones Miguel Cotto, provided more details about the Puerto Rican's injury.

"He has a distal bicep tendon rupture. It is retracted 6 to 7 centimeters. He has a large hematoma and that is why there is pain. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday (December 6)."
Cotto himself had claimed that he suffered the injury in the seventh round. Apparently, that's why he stopped throwing his left jab as much, which was quite effective when he did.
