The Latest on Jon Jones Doping Case
The vice president of health and performance at UFC has recently spoken out about Jon Jones' doping case, explaining once again how he could avoid a lengthy suspension and clarifying his previous statements.
"I said that Jon Jones' team, UFC, and USADA are working to determine the source of the prohibited substance. This is typically a lengthy process, and possible sanctions based on the results range from a several-year suspension to a minimal penalty. All parties are trying to find evidence of unintentional use of the prohibited substance. At no point in the interview did I say that there is any kind of information going in that direction."
These days, Cain Velasquez has given his opinion, labeling his teammate as a cheater. The former heavyweight champion is one of the closest friends of Jon Jones' biggest rival, Daniel Cormier.
"In the end, it's all about cheaters. In our gym, Daniel or I don't need extra substances to improve. We do it by working hard. We've been doing it since we were kids. We learned how to train, how to present ourselves, and how to compete. So if we're talking about steroids or any performance-enhancing substance, if it's not allowed, it's not allowed. We want everyone to be on the same page. So the fact that he did this, that Jon Jones did this, is pure crap. Why? Didn't you want to lose to Daniel? Was that it? Why?"
On the other hand, there are those who defend the American fighter, at least his legacy.
"It's difficult to answer whether those prohibited substances helped him in his performance because the way he fights is incredible. He does things that nobody does. He has so much talent. I don't believe his legacy is tarnished. He doesn't win his fights because of the prohibited substances. Of course, it probably helped, but he didn't win because of that. He's an amazing athlete."
