The President Martín Vizcarra announced on Friday the return of sports that do not involve contact. In the case of football, he indicated, this should return with empty stadiums in the following months.
After announcing a new decree that extends the state of emergency from May 25 to June 30, the President mentioned that professional sports activities "that do not involve direct physical contact" will be allowed, as well as professional soccer.
"We have received the authorization request from the Peruvian Football Federation to restart practices and later resume professional football competition", he said.
Vizcarra stated that this measure is important, but "respecting distancing and safety protocols". "The matches that take place on a professional level, at least in the following months, will have to be without public in the stadiums".
"The audience will be watching from their homes, these fierce competitions characteristic of our professional football,” he added.
