Juergen Droessiger crashed his motorcycle with a private truck at kilometer 42 of the South Pan-American Highway this afternoon. After this incident, the competitor would be the first to abandon the event.
The 54-year-old German rider was leaving Lima in a caravan with the other participants of the 2018 Dakar Rally, after participating earlier in the starting ceremony outside the Pentagonito headquarters in San Borja.
The competitors were heading to kilometer 253 of the South Pan-American Highway, near Pisco, to compete in a short race of 31 kilometers.
